Award of Garden MeritR. purpurea forma rubra  is the correct but rather boring name for a plant that is anything but. I first saw it at Edinburgh Botanic Garden where it had made huge clumps in the woodland garden. It is a dramatic new selection with with  large flowers of clear red and apple green leaves. The flowers are produced in profusion on sturdy plants They appear much later than most and it is shorter than many.
