ACIS (Leucojum)

ACIS (Leucojum)

ACIS (Leucojum)

Snowflakes. These small bulbs are relatives of the snowdrop with nodding green tipped white bell flowers. They have 6 even petals  instead of  3 large outer petals and 3 inner small ones.

The spring snowflake with its large flowers  from east Europe has wide leaves and likes a  damp position in part shade.

Those with tiny flowers and grassy leaves come from the mediterranean area and have now been moved from leucojum into their own genus - Acis. They are easily grown in a dry sunny spot, flowering in late summer/autumn.
