NERINE " HERA"

This delightful late flowering Nerine is virtually evergeen with narrow green leaves and is reasonably hardy . It is wrongly named but until we find a definitive name for this plant we will stick with what we have always called it.  It has beautiful compact heads of rich pink flowers. It increasing well. Late flowering so best under glass.  Rather like a taller, intense pink N. flexuosa. Hardy in sheltered areas and excellent in pots increasing rapidly. A very pretty plant.

An extraordinary hybrid with almost blue-purple cerise flowers. Hardiness uncertain as yet.

NERINE BOWDENII 'FAVOURITE'

The hardy autumn lily . A new name for a familiar favourite.  Strap shaped leaves in summer followed by  a stiff stem with one large loose umbel of up to eight pink trumpet flowers.  The bulbs should be planted in a sunny position where they can be left undisturbed to make large patches. Congested clumps flower best. They are perfect for growing against a sunny wall. Plant the bulbs at or just below the surface. Winter dormant.

NERINE BOWDENII 'ISABEL'

Award of Garden Merit   Autumn lily.  This very fine form of the popular autmn flowering nerine has heads of bright cerise pink trumpet flowers dusted with silver. Similar in coulur to Zeal Giant but with smaller heads. Earlier flowering than the type.   The bulbs should be planted in a sunny position where they can be left undisturbed to make large patches. Congested clumps flower best. They are perfect for growing against a sunny wall. Plant the bulbs at or just below the surface. Stunning in the recent RHS trial.

NERINE BOWDENII 'LIPSTICK'

  Autumn lily.  Who dipped the toips of this white nerind in shocking pink? very distinct and dramatic.  The bulbs should be planted in a sunny position where they can be left undisturbed to make large patches. Congested clumps flower best. They are perfect for growing against a sunny wall. Plant the bulbs at or just below the surface.Possibly slightly more tender than the type. Excellent in a pot.

NERINE BOWDENII 'MARK FENWICK'

Similar to N bowdenii but with slightly larger flowers of a more intense pink which are set off by the dark stems. We have an amazing border of them here.

NERINE BOWDENII 'PATRICIA' or STEFANI

Award of Garden Merit  Autumn lily.  This very fine form of the popular autumn flowering hardy nerine has heads of superb pale pink trumpet flowers . It is shorter than Marnie Rogerson. The bulbs should be planted in a sunny position where they can be left undisturbed to make large patches. Congested clumps flower best. They are perfect for growing against a sunny wall. Plant the bulbs at or just below the surface. Very beautiful. Almost certainly the same as Stefani.

NERINE CURVIFOLIA

The last Nerine to flower with distinct curved leaves. The salmon-cerise flowers open from dark  red buds. It is not hardy but easy in a deep pot in a cold glasshouse.

NERINE ELEGANCE 'Pearls of Cherries'

This is a magnificent new hybrid, like so many, bred for the cut flower industry. Huge 12in heads of deep salmon-pink flowers on very stiff stems. Very long lasting in flower and towering above all the others in our tunnel.  Probably hardy in a sheltered position only, it almost certainly has some N.sarniensis or N.curvifolium blood, it is fabulous grown in a large pot under cold glass and spectacular as a cut flower

NERINE FILMENTOSA

At last we can spare a few of my favourite of the small species nerine. It is always the first to flower and is virtually evergreen. Large (5") open heads of up to 15 delicate frilly pink flowers and grass-like foliage. The stems are slightly hairy. It is not hardy but easy in a deep pot in a cold glasshouse.

NERINE FLEXUOSA ALBA

This is a late flowering species nerine with tight heads of pure white, crimped flowers above apple green leaves. Only hardy in sheltered gardens but it makes a good pot plant for cold glass. Plant the bulbs at or just below the surface in a well drained soil/compost and leave undisturbed. Congested clumps flower best.

NERINE HUMILIS

At last we can spare a few of another favourite species nerine. This produces masses of  small mid pink flowers with wonderfully wavy edges. Unlike many nerine the leaves,which are narrow and strap-like are short . It makes a beautiful pot plant for cold glass.  It is not hardy but easy in a deep pot in a cold glasshouse.

NERINE MANSELLII ( x versicolor)

Autumn lily  (x versicolor) This stunning late flowering cultivar has  heads of salmon/cerise flowers that glisten and then fade to a delicious antique plum colour.  N. bowdenii x N. sarniensis. Hardy in sheltered districts but they make a free-flowering pot plant for cold glass. Plant the bulbs at or just below the surface. Keep them dry in the summer. This was bred for the cut flower industry in the Channel Islands.

NERINE SARNIENSIS CORUSCA MAJOR(Guernsey Lily)

(Guernsey Lily). Stunning, jewel-like  scarlet flowers . Although only hardy in the warmest counties, this stunning Nerine is worthy of listing as it is ideal for the greenhouse or conservatory. Keep dry in summer when it is dormant. Leave undisturbed  to completely fill the pot. They require a dry summer dormancy and are one of the earliest to flower. Fabulous!

NERINE SARNIENSIS GLEN SAVAGE

(Guernsey Lily). Smaller and later than Corusca Major this has stunning, jewel-like orange- scarlet flowers . Although only hardy in the warmest counties, this superb old cultivar is worthy of listing as it is ideal for the greenhouse or conservatory. Keep dry in summer when it is dormant. Leave undisturbed  to completely fill the pot. They require a dry summer dormancy. Fabulous!

NERINE UNDULATA

(crispa) This dainty nerine species is  reasonably hardy in a dry soil in sheltered gardens where it will form beautiful clumps of flowers in the late autumn. It produces small heads of delicate pink flowers with wavy, crisped edges from dark buds. Plant the bulbs at or just below the surface in a well drained soil.  Excellent pot plant

NERINE ZEAL GIANT

Huge 12in heads of up to 18 strident salmon-pink flowers. The largest and showiest of the nerines.Although it has N.sarniensis blood it seems hardy against a sunny wall, clumping up well. It is similar to Elegance but flowers much earlier.
