IRIS LAZICA (unguicularis group)

Fans of broad glossy evergreen leaves and dark purple flowers with white markings. Prefers shade where it can gropw into impressice clumps. . One of the I unguicularis group from N Turkey.

IRIS UNGUICULARIS 'MARY BARNARD'

  Winter iris    A narrow leaved form producing masses of deep blue-purple flowers.  Probably the best. Grows best against a sunny wall where it is usually the first to flower. Like all this group flowers are produced all winter,  stopping when there is a frost only to start again once the temperature rises.   Only a few to sell at the moment.

Winter iris    A small delicate Greek form of the winter flowering iris with narrow leaves and slender white flowers each with a blue thumb print on the falls. Requires a warm situation to flower well.

IRIS UNGUICULARIS (stylosa)

Winter Iris (Probably better known as iris stylosa). The large,fragrant bright lilac flowers with darker markings are produced all winter. All this group appreciate a warm sun-baked corner and will stand very poor soil. Cut the evergreen leaves back to 8" in October and rake out the dead ones.  Like all this group flowers are produced all winter often c0mpletely smothering the plant ,  stopping when there is a frost only to start again once the temperature rises.   Clump forming.

Winter iris    A narrow leaved form producing masses of deep blue-purple flowers. Oiginal plant from Norman Haddon, 40 years ago. He collected it is N Africa.  Grows best against a sunny wall where it is one of the first to flower. Like all this group flowers are produced all winter,  stopping when there is a frost only to start again once the temperature rises.  There is a spectacular clump on our rock garden
