ROSCOEA BEESIANA

Award of Garden MeritAn easy species with a long flowering period. Succession of large yellow flowers with purple flashes.

The hardy ginger relatives from the Himalayas are trouble free tuberous rooted perennials  flowering throughout the summer with clusters  of strange hooded flowers reminiscent of orchids.  The leaves are stem clasping and topped by a fat bud from which a mass of flowers open over a period of weeks. They require a cool, humus-rich soil and are lime tolerant. They are best planted deeply and mulched in winter in cold districts. Well established clumps flower best.

Height:12"

Flowers: Jul-Aug
